Tasting Note

91    2007 Lauverjat Sancerre Rosé (Moulin des Vrillères)    8/20/12 ($19)

100% Pinot Noir    12.5% alc
Color: Medium salmon (less red and more orange than when first released). (3.0) Bouquet: Apricot and tart apple with plenty of minerals and a touch of citrus and creme brulee. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and fruit. A tangy mouthfeel with some richness. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more tart and a bit less distinctive. (3.0) Finish: Long and elegant with apricot and green apple lingering. (3.0)
Overall: This has developed nicely, last had it four years ago, with the strawberry fruit of its youth turning to apricot. It also has an interesting creme brulee nuance in the bouquet that doesn't quite make it to the flavor and finish. Maybe it will with more time? Still has plenty of life with excellent Loire minerality, which might allow it to develop for 2-3 more years, but probably at its best right now. I have seen their white in more recent vintages, a very good Sancerre, but haven't found their rosé since this one. I'd buy it if I found it. (15.5)
