Tasting Note

90+   2006 Las Rocas Viñas Viejas  San Alejandro (Calatayud)  11/18/09 ($17)

   14.5% alc
Color: Deep purple cassis. (3.5) Bouquet: Concentrated black raspberry with black cherry, cedar and game thrown in. Hedonistic. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity with a little tannin. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as interesting. Still very solid. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with very good length. (3.0)
Overall: Another amazing Spanish value. This is very ripe, juicy Grenache with lively structure. Has the concentration and focus of a Southern Rhone costing twice the price at least, but with no Provençal herbs to get in the way of the pure old vines fruit. Drink now and in the next 3-4 years. (15.5)
