Tasting Note

87    2006 Lucien Lardy  Fleurie Les Roches VV  9/7/09 ($18)

  12.5% alc
Color: Medium deep black-raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Strawberry, raspberry and some black plum with minerals and acidity. Reserved at present. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with very good fruit and acidity and some tannin. Coats the mouth nicely. Big for Fleurie, but could use more elegance. (3.0) Flavor: Shows richer dried strawberries and plum than the bouquet with black licorice and candied raspberry. Also shows oak and some bitterness. Minerality gives it some life though. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with bitterness and candied fruit lingering. (2.5)
Overall: I like the minerals, but it's a bit clumsy at present with bitterness and a heavy mouthfeel probably from too much oak. Needs food at present, but could come together with time (2-4 years). Black licorice and leather components almost make me think I'm drinking a Cotes du Rhone. (13.5)
