Tasting Note

91  2012  Casa Lapostolle  Cabernet Sauvignon Cuvee Alexandre  (Apalta Vineyard-Colchagua Valley)   11/10/14 ($19)

  14.1% alc
Color: Deep black-purple ruby. (3.5) Bouquet: Concentrated strawberry and blackberry compote with sweet almond paste and oily Chilean terroir nuances. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Not quite as distinctive as the bouquet. A slight dark chocolate component intermingles with the fruit here. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor step-for-step. (3.0)
Overall: Impressive quality, structure and character for the price with concentrated blackberry/strawberry fruit and interesting oily terroir, almond paste and dark chocolate nuances. Nothing from California that's Cabernet-based can touch this in this price range. Decant for a few hours if drinking now or age for 3-5 years. Outstanding value. (16.0)
