Tasting Note

91+   2011  M. Lapierre  Morgon   2/2/13 ($25)

 100% Gamay   12.5% alc
Color: Medium purple raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Forestal briar and game complements raspberry and strawberry fruit. Crisp, precise and very Gamay in the best sense. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and fruit with a tangy mouthfeel. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with some musky old vines richness intertwined with the tart fruit. (3.5) Finish: Complexity and charm linger. (3.0)
Overall: An excellent showing from a leaner vintage, compared to the last two. A well balanced middleweight with excellent acidity and tart raspberry fruit. Also shows complex old vines character with briar and game nuances. This is a joy to drink even now after a 2 hour decant or let age for 3-6 years. It doesn't have the structure of the last 2 vintages, but it has more of the charm of the '09 than the '10 did. (16.5)
