Tasting Notes

88+   2008  M. Lapierre  Morgon    6/25/10 ($20)

          12% alc
Color: Medium raspberry. On the light side, but somehow has depth to it. (3.0) Bouquet: Tart cranberry with hints of raspberry, blueberry and green onion spice. (3.0) Body: Fierce youthful acidity with very good tart fruit. Paradoxically lean, structured and fierce all at the same time. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but the fruit is less expressive here, but shows intense minerality. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with a little acid burn. Minerals, cinnamon and spice linger. (2.5)
Overall: As usual, this is a uniquely compelling Cru Beaujolais, and as usual it needs time, 3-5 years. Shows youthful, tart berry fruit with fierce acidity, being lean, but structured with outstanding minerality and some spice. If drinking now, decant for a couple of hours. (14.0)
