Tasting Note

92   2011  Lapierre  Morgon (Cru Beaujolais)   5/12/17  ($25)

   12.5% alc
Color: Deep red to black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet Red plum and red cherry fruit complemented by intense minerality with subtle forestal nuances in the background. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent lean fruit and acidity. Tangy minerals in the mouth. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with even more lively minerality that propels the fruit. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with mineral and pretty fruit echoes. (3.5)
Overall: An excellent Cru Beaujolais for those who like 'em lean. There is absolutely no fat here; no plump fruit, no fancy oak, no big tannins. In its place, there is pretty, elegant fruit supercharged with intense minerality. There are also subtle forestal nuances in the background. Very terroir driven just the way Red Burgundy should be (in my humble opinion). Great food wine! Drink now and in the next few years. (16.0)
