Tasting Note

90+(?)   2009  Kiralyudvar  Tokaji  Furmint Sec (Hungary)   2/3/13 ($20)

 100% Furmint   13.0% alc
Color: Deep yellow straw. (3.0) Bouquet: Aromatic apple (like Martinelli sparkling apple juice) with minerality and tart lemon and beeswax. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent minerality and fruit. Silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Citrus, beeswax and apple. More intense than bouquet. (3.5) Finish: Long and subtle with a nuance of anise lingering. (3.0)
Overall: Very tasty, medium bodied white, versatile with food, more mineral driven than acidity driven. Shows the most intensity in the flavor with briny spice and lanolin complementing apple, beeswax and citrus fruit. This elegant wine is best served at cellar temperature. Somewhat reminiscent of Savennieres (dry Chenin Blanc), but more elegant. Excellent value! Drink now and in the next few years. Could improve. (15.5)

Note: Drank this again 7/28/14 and it is developing nicely with beeswax being more expressive and rich. This should continue to improve in the next couple of years at least. 91+
