Tasting Note

88+   2007  Juan Gil  (Jumilla)  1/22/10 ($15)

    100% Monastrell     15% alc
Color: Deep black cherry garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Rustic and woodsy with hearty wild black raspberry fruit. (3.0) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit and very good tannin. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with an intense forestal briar and some heat. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with length. (2.5)
Overall: A young, unformed, hearty and rustic Mourvedre. It has excellent fruit concentration and briary, forestal complexity, but is also crudely austere at present. Give it an hour or two of decanting for now drinking. This is likely to improve with 3-5 years of bottle age. (14.0)
