Tasting Note

88   2002 Domaine Joblot Givry Pied de Chaume     10/15/05 ($19)

Color: Light cherry with a touch of onion skin. Still has some depth in the lightness. (2.5) Bouquet: Tart strawberry and cherry with musky wet leaves, beef broth and mint. Very Burgundian. (3.0) Body: A light middleweight with excellent acidity and nice fruit. Impressive flavor for its size. (2.5) Flavor: Minerals and wet leaves with just enough tart strawberry and raspberry fruit. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet with the beef broth returning, giving more richness. Relatively long. (3.0)
Overall: I’m being generous with an 88, but this is a light Pinot Noir (almost like a rosé) with impressive nuance and intensity of flavor for its weight and an excellent value for this vintage. Drink now and in the next year or so. (13.5)
