Tasting Note

88    2008  Jayer-Gilles  Hautes Cotes de Beaune   4/15/12 ($28)

  13% alc
Color: Medium red/black cherry. (2.5) Bouquet: Smoky autumn leaves and some cedar complement raspberry and cherry fruit. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with sufficient tart red fruit and very good acidity. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as intense. (3.0) Finish: Tasty with some tang, but the intensity drops off quickly leaving delicate leaf and cedar complexity lingering. (2.5)
Overall: This does have interesting autumn leaf complexity, combined with a health dose of cedar, propelled by very good acidity, but I'd like to see more fruit concentration and a little more structure and minerality. Nonetheless, it's tasty, balanced and well-made. (13.5)
