Tasting Notes

95+   1996  Louis Jadot  Chambolle-Musigny Les Fueés   3/12/11 ($55)

  13.5% alc
Color: Deep black cherry with some browning and clearing, but very healthy for its age. (3.5) Bouquet: Wild red raspberry and sweet black cherry with intense black truffles and wet leaves. Very complex with acidity lifting it up. Mineral, elegant game and gout de vieux nuances. (3.5) Body: Excellent acidity, fruit and elegance on a solid middleweight plus frame. Well balanced. Has an attractive tang in the mouth. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with delicious, tangy old vines fruit and persistent, yet elegant complexity. (3.5) Finish: Wonderful complexity really lingers here with veal broth added, but fruit is not quite as expressive as in the mouth. (3.5)
Overall: I last had this 5 years ago. It was excellent, but somewhat closed. Boy has it opened up and transformed. A Great Chambolle. Has elegance and power driving wonderful black truffles, wet leaves and tangy veal broth complexity. Plenty of wild raspberry and tart black cherry fruit too. In a beautiful place! Drink now and in the next 2 years. (17.5)
