Tasting Note

89   1996 Jean-Jacques Confuron Chambolle-Musigny    8/29/03($35)

Color: Dark red with quite a bit of brown, but not clearing yet. Implies ready or near.(3.0) Bouquet: Cola w tree bark and truffles. Integrated buttery oak with beef bouillon, yellow onion, cranberry, raspberry and cedar. Interesting combo of nuances.(3.5) Body: Good fruit to acid balance. A solid middleweight, but could use a bit more fruit.(3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not as prominent. Acid and alcohol overpower fruit here, but not the complex components.(2.0) Finish: Long and silky. Pretty cola and black truffle prevalent; very Chambolle.(3.0)
Overall: Very tasty village wine. Has Chambolle silk and complexity. Very enjoyable and well made, just not impressive, but village wines rarely are. At its best now, drink in next 6 months or so.(14.5)
