Tasting Note

94  1997 Isole e Olena  Cepparello  I.G.T.   1/14/12 ($50)

  100% Sangiovese
Color: Deep garnet to brick red with some browning and slight clearing, but looks healthy and peak. (3.5) Bouquet: Burnt caramel and mocha complement precise black cherry and subtle cigarbox. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding elegance and acidity. Excellent fruit and complexity add to make it very well balanced. (3.5) Flavor: More giving than the bouquet with delicious black cherry and dusty Tuscan terroir with precision. (3.5) Finish: Long, but not quite as complex as the flavor. Just a touch of alcohol. (3.0)
Overall: Shows classic Sangiovese acidity-based structure and precise black cherry fruit combined with burnt caramel and mocha nuances. It also has Chianti Classico elegance and fine balance. Has the structure to go another 5 years, but not sure if it has enough fruit to improve. Drinking beautifully now with character and class. (16.5)
