Tasting Note

88+   2007  Horton  Viognier    7/11/09 ($14)

  13.5% alc
Color: Medium silver yellow. (2.5) Bouquet: Dried apricots, fresh apples and a touch of orange. Concentrated with excellent acidity lifting it up. Pure fruit that's lively. (3.0) Body: Excellent fruit and acidity coat the mouth nicely. Solid middleweight that's light on its feet. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as giving. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with length, but some alcohol slightly mars the fruit. (2.5)
Overall: A very good Viognier and not just for VA. The pure fruit uplifted by acidity is impressive. It's young and improves with air and as it warms. I suspect the flavor and finish will equal the bouquet with 1-3 years of bottle age. Don't serve too cold. (14.0)
