Tasting Note

88  2008 Holloran  Pinot Noir (Willamette Valley)  1/27/11 ($20)

  13%alc
Color: Deep black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Butter and black cherry. Rich and elegant. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and very good fruit with a smooth, lively mouthfeel. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with lively acidty and smooth cherry fruit, but lacks distinction for me. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet. Really needs more Pinot perfume here. (2.5)
Overall: Shows the concentration and balance of the vintage in the black cherry fruit and butter lifted by excellent acidity. But could use more distinction and Pinot perfume. Also has a buttery component that throws me off a bit. Could improve in the next 2-3 years. Nonetheless, an overachiever for the price (for Pinot at least). (14.0)
