Tasting Note

90     2003 H.u.M. Hofer Gruner Veltliner Freiberg     12/16/05 ($15)

13.5% alc, Terry Theise Selection
Color: Light yellow (2.5) Bouquet: Ripe pear and white grape juice with excellent acidity and some mineral. Smells like Champagne. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit-to-acid balance. (3.0) Flavor: Peaches, pears and orange rind. Delicious fruit combo with some chalky acidity complementing. Persistent. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but shows a little bitterness with medium length. Still very tasty. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent stuff, particularly for the price, with delicious fruit and acidity. Has the crispness and freshness of a Sancerre with bigger fruit and structure, more like a white Rhone. A fine GV that should remain excellent for a couple of years at least. (15.0)
