Tasting Note

91      1999 V.Girardin Santenay les Gravieres 12/11/04 ($20)

Color: Pretty medium Burgundy robe. (3.0) Bouquet: Wonderfully pungent black truffles and beef broth with minerals and red raspberry. Impressive. (4.0) Body: Solid middleweight and then some. Excellent acidity integrated with fruit and complexity. (3.0) Flavor: Old vines complexity with excellent acidity. Truffles and tart raspberry. Very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but acidity prevails slightly over fruit. (2.5)
Overall: A very fine Santenay, one of the best I’ve ever tasted. A wonderful expression of old vines Burgundy terroir. It’s peak and delicious. Plenty of acidity to keep it together for 1-2 years, but slight acetic edge in the finish suggests drinking it soon. (15.5)
