92    1999  Vincent Girardin  Clos Saint-Denis    3/13/10 ($60)

      13% alc
Color: Deep framboise. (3.0) Bouquet: Smoky black raspberry and black cherry with black truffles. Sweet and rich, yet elegant. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Coats the mouth with lively minerality. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with tart, sweet, ripe, smoky and forest-infused raspberry and black cherry. Delicious and very elegant. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with length and sweetness, but not quite as forward. (3.0)
Overall: This is a fine, fruity and deliciously elegant example of a Grand Cru from Morey St. Denis. It has compelling forestal complexity intertwined with raspberry and black cherry fruit. A tart minerality keeps it lively. Its fruit-forward, yet elegant, personality suggests drinking it now, but excellent acidity should keep it at its best for a couple of more years, at least. (16.0)
