Tasting Note

94     1999 V.Girardin Pommard Les Chaponnieres   12/10/05 ($42)

Color: Deep Burgundy robe with some brown, but no clearing. Pretty. (3.0) Bouquet: Strong truffles and mint with excellent acidity. Also nuances of vanilla, cedar and all-spice. All this framing a core of sweet red cherries. Aromatic and very interesting. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent acidity and sweet fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not as intense. Now tasting smooth, tart plum with the cherries. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet and then some. Very sweet vanilla-infused fruit. Goes on and on with complexities surrounding a delicious core. (4.0)
Overall: This is the best showing of this wine that I’ve had so far. This is very peak, shown by its sweet fruit, combined with aromatic, multidimensional, terroir-driven complexity in a classy package. (16.5)
