Tasting Note

88  2001 Vincent Girardin Savigny-les-Beaune Les Peuillets  5/9/04 ($25)

Color: Pretty medium Burgundy robe.(3.0) Bouquet: Sweet basil, tart cherry and raspberry nose. Nice but a little young and restrained.(2.5) Body: Medium, rich fruit with good acidity and some tannin. Solid middleweight, which will improve with 1-2 years of bottle age.(3.0) Flavor: Tart cherry and raspberry with some lime thrown in. Not totally ripe, but rich and tasty nonetheless.(2.5) Finish: Long mineral and elegant forestal terroir, combined with nuances paralleling the flavor.(3.0)
Overall: Pretty, tart cherry and strawberry/raspberry fruit, combined with some B class make it very tasty. A very consistent, rich and elegant Burgundy. Not particularly ageworthy or overly complex, but still a fine entry-level B that I always enjoy. Should improve in the next 1-2 yrs.(14.0)
