Tasting Note

90+   1998 Geantet Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Le Poissenot   2/9/13 ($43)

   13% alc
Color: Deep black cherry with some browning at rim and just slight clearing. (3.0) Bouquet: Classic Burgundy complexity of aromatic wet leaves, carmelized onion and mint. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and tannins underneath. Fruit is sufficient, very good. Silky mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as distinctive and could show a bit more fruit. (3.0) Finish: Excellent length and complexity with some bitterness. (3.0)
Overall: A powerful GC with interesting complexity and excellent structure. Could use a bit more fruit and still has some austerity to it due to tannin and a touch of alcohol. A slightly flawed gem with its lack of balance being a common characteristic of the vintage. Drink now with a decant or wait a few more years and hope the fruit holds. (15.0)
