Tasting Note

90  1998 Geantet Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Le Poissenot      4/4/07 ($43)

13% alc
Color: Deep Burgundy robe, approaching maturity, but no clearing. (3.5) Bouquet: Cranberry, maraschino cherry and car wax. Interesting and full, but a little restrained, needs more time. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with smooth oak surrounding a balance of fruit-to-tannin-to-acid. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with dried fruit flavors and a healthy dose of oak, but not as open. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet with good length and spice (terroir/oak). (3.0)
Overall: Just makes excellent after 1-2 hrs in a decanter. Still needs 2-3 years. Has excellent intensity and interesting complexity, but still in its shell. Because of the vintage, I won’t promise improvement, but this certainly could rise a point or two. (15.0)
