Tasting Note

90   2009  Domaine de Fontsainte Resérve  La Demoiselle (Corbières)   9/10/13 ($13)

70% Carignan (100 year old vines), 20% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre     13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe blackberry liqueur and stewed black cherry. Lively with bacon and red meat nuances. (3.0) Body: Viscous, tangy mouthfeel with excellent fruit and very good acidity. Solid middleweight plus. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with extra fruit richness. Almost California like in its ripeness. (3.0) Finish: Not quite as intense as flavor. (3.0)
Overall: More ripe fruit than usual for this typically elegant, Carignan-based Corbieres. The rich blackberry and stewed cherry fruit combined with the viscous mouthfeel give it an almost Syrah-like character, but it remains lively, not heavy, despite its extra weight. Bacon and game nuances add character. An outstanding value, as usual. Drink now and in the next few years. (15.0)
