Tasting Note

90  2007  Fontodi  Chianti Classico     9/28/12 ($27)

  14% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Almonds and subtle cedar with violets, complement tart cherry fruit. (3.0) Body: Excellent acidity and very good fruit. Light heavyweight. (3.0) Flavor: More tartness and youthful austerity make it less attractive than the bouquet. (2.5) Finish: The aromaticity and distinction of the bouquet returns here. Does show some lingering tartness. (3.0)
Overall: A very high quality regular Chianti Classico with outstanding acidity-based structure and very good, classic Sangiovese fruit, tart cherry, but could use a little more to counter the acidity. Also has aromatic violet and crushed almond complexity. Better than many houses' Riserva. A serious wine for sure, that is worth the price. Best now with food to tone down its youthful austerity. It should improve in the next 2-4 years. (14.5)
