Tasting Note

91+   2007  Fontodi   Chianti Classico    7/9/17  ($25)

   14% alc
Color: Medium deep brick red to garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dried and stewed black cherry, spicy nuts and dusty Tuscan terroir nuances. Forceful, yet mature. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and smooth tannins underneath. Tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. Very tasty and food friendly . (3.5) Finish: Not quite as expressive as the flavor, but still persistent. (3.0)
Overall: Showed ageworthy structure from its release, but was somewhat closed as a younger wine. It's totally mature and drinking beautifully now. Possibly the most seriously ageworthy, regular (not a Riserva or a single vineyard) Chianti Classico you are going to find. Very enjoyable stuff and an excellent value, if you are willing to wait for it to open up and mature. This particular vintage seems nearly perfect at 10. (16.0)
