Tasting Note

87  2007 Foley Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir Rancho Santa Rosa 12/30/08 ($32)

14.3% alc
Color: Medium garnet with a hint of purple. (3.0) Bouquet: Black cherry cola fruit with some slightly bitter green oak. Also has a touch of alcohol, but is still aromatically attractive. (2.5) Body: Excellent fruit and acidity with a lively mouthfeel that coats. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with a solid black cherry mid-palate, but bitter oak becomes more apparent. (2.5) Finish: Rich with length, but also some bitterness. (2.5)
Overall: This has a little more body/umph than the '06, but to the detriment of delicious Pinot Noir fruit. Some bitter oak is sticking out at present, but not so much so that it couldn't integrate in the next 1-3 years. Comes off tasty, but somewhat flawed. (13.5)
