Tasting Note

90  2006 Foley Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir Rancho Santa Rosa 11/28/08 ($32)

14.3% alc
Color: Medium garnet with a touch of light brown leaves thrown in. (3.0) Bouquet: Elegant, sweet cola with smooth black cherry. Very pretty and aromatic. (3.0) Body: Middleweight with tangy acidity, complementing charming fruit. Could be bigger, more structured and concentrated, but still has enough structure to hold or even improve in the next couple of years. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. (3.0)
Overall: Very solid, tasty stuff from start to finish. Nothing outstanding here, but still an excellent, charming Pinot Noir with forward, aromatic cherry cola fruit in an elegantly nuanced package. It's not as good as the '02 or '04, but more restrained and balanced than the overdone '05. It's closer to the '03 in character, but maybe a little softer and less structured.
