Tasting Note

90  2004 Foley Santa Rita Hills P.N. Rancho Santa Rosa   10/5/11 ($27)

14.3% alc
Color: Black cherry to brick red. A little browning. (3.0) Bouquet: Black cherry cola with mint and a little brown sugar. Also a touch of alcohol, but smooth. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and very good acidity. Smooth in the mouth. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. Tasty, but could be more expressive. (3.0) Finish: Its best characteristic with a hint of marzipan in with the fruit. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent, tasty Pinot, mostly about ripe black cherry cola fruit with nice supporting acidity and some mint. What I like best is that nothing is overdone. It could use more complexity though. I was hoping this would develop into something more special, but few Pinots from outside of Burgundy do. (15)
