Tasting Note

91+(?)     1999 Felsina Fontalloro       10/2/11 ($35)

100% Sangiovese 13.5% alc
Color: Deep brick red with slight browning and clearing. (3.0) Bouquet: Concentrated tart red and black cherry with roasted almonds and pistachios, acidity propelled. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity, very good tannin too. Acidity is slightly austere. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with cigarbox. Tangy Sangiovese with smooth tannins. (3.5) Finish: Outstanding length, the tangy fruit and nuts go on and on. (3.5)
Overall: Very well put together with classic Tuscan Sangiovese character. It's peak, but could improve in the next 1-3 years. (16.0)

Note: Had this again in June of 2013 and it seemed to be in decline with chalky acidity sticking out and fruit fading. Still enjoyable with a meal. Scored it 90 points.
