Tasting Note

90+     1999 Felsina Fontalloro       8/18/07 ($35)

13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet with no onion skin. (3.5) Bouquet: Intense cigarbox and acidity combined with roasted chestnuts and dried cherries. Aromatic, but a little green (young with unripe tannin). (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity and tannin that is slightly more prevalent than the fruit and nuances at present. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but less giving with some green piney flavors and tart acidity. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet. Long with a little pine lingering. (3.0)
Overall: This is a serious Sangiovese with impressive structure, showing the restraint and elegance of the Chianti Classico region. It has fine potential and is 2-4 years from being peak, and should lose its greenness and become more rich and silky with time, but is very enjoyable even now with food. (15.0)
