Tasting Note

87+   2006 Felsina  Chianti Classico    8/21/09 ($20)

  13% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet, particularly for a regular CC. (3.0) Bouquet: Sweet cherries with some dusty Tuscan terroir and a little smoky black pepper. (3.0) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent acidity and some dry, chalky tannins. Has decent fruit, but could be more forward to balance the tannin. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more harsh. Could use more fruit. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but even more austere and a little short. (2.5)
Overall: Well structured with distinctive Sangiovese character, but youthfully austere and somewhat lacking in fruit. Could come out of its shell and sweeten with 1-3 years of bottle age. Improves with air, so decant for 1-2 hours if drinking now.
(13.5)
