Tasting Note

92+   2004  Felsina  Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva   1/18/13 ($33)

  13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Pistachio-infused tart black cherry with distinctive flowery, dusty Tuscan terroir. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity and smooth tannins. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with cigarbox in the mix, but shows a slight bitterness. (3.0) Finish: All the flavors linger nicely along with a Torrone candy nuance. (3.0)
Overall: Classic Chianti Classico Riserva with significant smooth tannins and excellent acidity supporting deliciously nutty, tart black cherry with richness and concentration. Also shows plenty of Tuscan terroir with flowery, dusty distinction. Outstanding now, but might improve as the tannins calm more in the next 2-4 years. (16.0)
