Tasting Note

92+(?)  2004  Felsina Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva      4/6/08 ($33)

Color: Deep, dense purple garnet. (3.5) Bouquet: Rich, concentrated stewed black cherry with tang. Also cedar and some dark chocolate with smooth Tuscan terroir. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with concentrated fruit and acidity with some tannin underneath. Coats the mouth beautifully. (3.5) Flavor: Balanced and silky with rich stewed cherry and dark chocolate with supporting acidity. Does not show much complexity at this point, probably due to baby fat (young fruit) predominating. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor, but has length and more tang. Very rich and smooth. (3.0)
Overall: This is very rich stuff with dense yet silky black fruit. It has great potential, but shows so much youthful baby fat fruit at this stage that it is hard to judge. I wish I could say that I can taste great long term structure or great complexity or terroir, but I can't yet. So, have to wait and see. Even now it's rich, concentrated, balanced and seemless. Try again in 3+ years. If drinking now, decant for 2 hours. (16.0)
