Tasting Notes

92   2001  Felsina  Chianti Classico Riserva  10/16/10 ($22)

  13.5% alc
Color: Medium deep garnet with slight clearing, but no onion skin. (3.0) Bouquet: Cigarbox with sweet dusty cherry, roasted pistachio and chestnut. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with outstanding acidity and excellent fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not as intense. Still very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels bouquet with intense acidity and pistachio-infused, dusty cherry repeating with length. (3.5)
Overall: This is classic CC Riserva with its dusty cherry fruit propelled by outstandingly lively acidity and complemented by roasted pistachio and chestnut. This turned out even better than I thought it would, showed a little green oak in its youth that is no longer detectable. At its best now and in the next year or so. (16.0)
