Tasting Note

92+   2013  Felsina   Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva (Toscano)   2/2/18  ($45)

   14% alc
Color: Deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Concentrated tart cherry and racy acidity are smoothed over by creamy vanilla, clove and subtle cigarbox with dusty Tuscan earth in the background. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with outstanding acidity, fruit and plenty of smooth tannins underneath. Tangy, somewhat silky mouthfeel. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet with impressive richness to the fruit. (3.5) Finish: Parallels flavor with excellent length, but not quite as delicious and less distinctive. (3.0)
Overall: An outstanding Rancia that is a joy even now, but does show youthful fierceness that needs time to calm down. The tart cherry fruit is racy and concentrated. The dusty Tuscan earth and vanilla/cigarbox oak are classic and balanced. This is likely the best Rancia since the wonderful 2007 and should be at its best at 8-12 years old. (16.5)
