Tasting Note

92+   2006  Felsina  Fontalloro (IGT - Toscana)   12/28/14  ($50)

Poggio al Sole vineyard (Chianti Classico) and the Casalino and Arcidossino vineyards (Chianti Colli Senesi)  14.5% alc
Color: Very deep garnet. No browning or clearing to speak of. (3.5) Bouquet: Very forestal, briar and cigarbox with iron minerality and significant, smooth, but slightly green tannins. (3.5) Body: Heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and chalky tannins. Rich, tangy mouthfeel that coats nicely. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but astringency is more prevalent adding tartness. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor. (3.0)
Overall: The tannins are still a bit austere, but everything is in place for it to improve as the tannins smooth in the next 3-5 years. Classic, austere Tuscan Sangiovese with excellent dusty, forestal, minerally Tuscan terroir. (16.5)
