Tasting Note

94   2004  Felsina  Rancia Chianti Classico Riserva    4/2/17  ($42)

   13.5% alc
Color: Deep garnet, barely a hint of browninig. Impressive for 13. (3.5) Bouquet: Acidity-propelled tart cherry with ground nuts on top. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity, smooth tannins and very good fruit. Smooth, tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, fruit and nuts are smooth and racy. (3.5) Finish: Long and pretty with hints of marzipan. (3.5)
Overall: An outstanding CC Riserva with lively, tart cherry fruit complemented by ground nuts and dusty Tuscan terroir. I had a bottle of this 5 months ago that seemed more backward (gave it 92+), but this is right where I like to drink it. Classic, mature, top-notch CC Riserva in every sense. The only reason I don't give it a great rating is because it's just a little lacking in complexity. Drink now and in the next few years. (17)
