Tasting Note

92    2004 Marco Felluga Collio Pinot Grigio    1/26/07 ($16)

Color: Light gold. Deep for P.G. (3.0) Bouquet: Shaved lime and wet stones with a touch of nutty oak. Nice intensity. (3.5) Body: Excellent acidity and fruit, a heavyweight for P.G. A solid middleweight for white Burgundy. Coats the mouth with minerals and an Italian tang. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but not quite as expressive. (3.0) Finish: Long, lively and very tasty. Parallels bouquet, but has a slight bitterness. (3.0)
Overall: This tastes more like an elegantly-styled, top-notch Pouilly-Fuisse (costing twice the price) than a P.G. from Friuli. Only the limey tang says P.G. What a refined, yet unexpectedly intense treasure. On second thought, it tastes like a fine still Champagne. I don’t know if it will get better, but it certainly has the structure to develop in the next 2-3+ years. A fantastic P.G. at a great price. (16.0)
