Tasting Notes

90   2010  Fattoria del Cerro  Vino Nobile di Montepulciano  12/1/13 ($18)

 90% Sangiovese, 5% Colorino, 5% Mammolo   13.5% alc
Color: Deep purple garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dusty cherry and roasted almonds with herbs and some astringent, cedary tannins. Has power and richness. (3.0) Body: A heavyweight with excellent fruit, tannins and acidity. Tangy and mouthcoating. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Youthful austerity (green tannins) linger with power and fruit. Needs time. (3.0)
Overall: Shows significant green, cedary tannins at this point, but the fruit and acidity have enough intensity to meet, making it enjoyable even now. Its youthful power could stand some smoothing though and will probably be at its best in 3-5 years. If drinking now, decant a couple of hours. Outstanding value. Best vintage of this wine I've tasted. (15.5)
