85 2001 Estancia Merlot – Central Coast 1/3/04($15)
Solid middleweight with good varietal character, showing strawberry fruit combined with somewhat austere scallion and grass nuances. A little young with enough tannin to warrant a year or two of aging. Note the appellation has changed on this wine, formerly Sonoma County, and has slipped quite a bit because of it.
