Tasting Note

90+(?)   2013  Elena Fucci   Titolo Aglianico del Vulture (Basilicata)   2/3/18  ($35)

100% Aglianico    14% alc
Color: Medium deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Iron minerality, sweet herbs and smoky brown sugar complement tart, dried black cherries. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent acidity, smooth tannins and very good fruit. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step for step. (3.0) Finish: Iron salt-infused fruit linger beautifully here. My favorite part. (3.5)
Overall: A very balanced Aglianico del Vulture that shows a consistent flavor profile from start to finish. Sweet herbs and dried tart cherry fruit build with air. If drinking now, decant a couple of hours, but should improve significantly with 2-4 years bottle age. I'd compare this to d'Angelo's entry level Aglianico del Vulture from a better vintage, such as 2012 (not the 2013, which was too tannic). (15.5)
