89+   2006  Vale do Bomfim  Douro Valley (by Dow)  8/15/10 ($13)

Color: Medium garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe blackberry, boysenberry and cassis with tobacco and cedar nuances. (2.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Just a hint of tannin. Rich mouthfeel that coats somewhat. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but richer and more giving. Smooth and delicious. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with rich fruit, cedar and a hint of marzipan lingering. (3.0)
Overall: A delicious, ripe, fruity wine (blackberry, boysenberry and cassis) with enough character to make it interesting (tobacco and cedar nuances). Smooth and perfectly balanced. Drinks like a cross between a St. Emilion and a rich, ripe CA Merlot. Outstanding value. (14.5)
