Tasting Note

92+  2011  Domaine du Closel  Savennieres La Jalousie  (Loire)   10/4/14 ($20)

 100% Chenin Blanc  14.5% alc
Color: Medium straw yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Beeswax and poached pear with excellent minerality. Clean and precise with slight botrytis. (3.0) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Coats mouth beautifully without being heavy. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but more intense with ginger, pollen and beeswax. Delicious! Botrytis adds an extra dimension, but completely dry. (3.5) Finish: Ginger and beeswax linger, but not quite as expressive as flavor. (3.0)
Overall: An outstanding Savennieres that is amazing for the price. A combination of intensity and precision are shown in its beeswax and poached pear fruit, minerality and spicy ginger. Also has a hint of botrytis, but remains totally dry. This last component really sets it apart from its competition. Should just get better in the next 3-5 years. (16.0)
