Tasting Note

93     2006 Dog Point Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc     5/28/07 ($18)

Color: Medium yellow. (3.0) Bouquet: Intense grass, pear, green pea and spice with flower pollen tickling the sinuses. (3.5) Body: Excellent fruit-to-acid balance. It coats the mouth with spicy acidity and minerals. Solid middleweight plus. Intense. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but with less intensity. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor with persistent key-lime, mineral and grass components, all delivered with class. (3.0)
Overall: This is gorgeous! New Zealand Sauv. Blanc at its best. Intense, yet classy with complex, nuanced fruit. This and the ’98 Goldwater are the two finest NZ SB’s I’ve tasted, with more nuance and class than their neighbors. This should age for a few years at least, but will it improve? Why wait. (16.0)
