Tasting Note

88    2008  Diochon  Moulin à Vent  Vielles Vignes   2/25/12 ($12)

 100% Gamay  13% alc
Color: Medium deep red cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe plum and mineral with some musky old vines and forestal spice. A bit muted though. (2.5) Body: Excellent acidity and mineral with sufficient fruit. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Red raspberry and tart plum fruit with chalky mineral/acidity. Tangy/tasty, but could use more fruit. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor, but more intense with excellent length. (3.0)
Overall: Excellent Cru Beaujolais character with old vines complexity and intense mineral accompanied by solid acidity-based structure. If it weren't a bit lacking in fruit, it would deserve a significantly higher score. Still shows decent tart plum and red raspberry. A very good food wine, particularly at this price, a closeout, regularly about $20. Could improve in the next couple of years if the fruit holds. Serve at cellar temperature. (14.0)
