Tasting Note

89+    2005 Domaine Diochon Moulin-a-Vent VV     6/16/07 ($17)

13% alc (Kermit Lynch)
Color: Deep purple framboise. (3.0) Bouquet: Rich sweet strawberry and raspberry with youthful yeasty-grapyness. Very clean. (3.5) Body: Solid fruit and acidity with smooth elegance in the mouth. Middleweight. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but lighter and more restrained. (2.5) Finish: Parallels bouquet with more persistence than the flavor, but does not quite have the concentration of the bouquet. Cinnamon spice comes out here. (3.0)
Overall: This has classic Beaujolais fruit with very good intensity and spice, and is surprisingly classy for a Moulin-a-Vent. It should improve with a little time, but is delicious right now. Give it an hour in a decanter to let the secondary nuances come out or cellar it for 1-3 years. (14.5)
