Tasting Note

91+   2005  Diochon  Moulin à Vent  Vielles Vignes (Cru Beaujolais)   12/13/13 ($17)

100% Gamay  13% alc    Kermit Lynch
Color: Deep black cherry. Very slight browning, but no clearing. (3.0) Bouquet: Wild strawberry and tart plum with a mineral/acidity infusion combined with forestal nuances and game. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Tangy mouthfeel. (3.0) Flavor: Not quite as expressive as the bouquet. (3.0) Finish: Long with precise fruit and complexity returning with more vigor. (3.5)
Overall: Approaching full maturity, this shows excellent complexity, minerality and acidity with precise wild strawberry/tart plum fruit. Still a little restrained in flavor, which may open more with 2-3 more years. An outstanding Cru Beaujolais that consistently delivers quality that is just a notch below the big names like Foillard and Lapierre. (16.0)
