Tasting Note

94   2014  Dehlinger  Chardonnay (Russian River Valley)   6/30/18  ($40)

   14.8% alc
Color: Silvery light gold. (3.0) Bouquet: Crisp pear with some tart apple and lively minerality, complemented by subtle hazelnut. (3.5) Body: Light heavyweight with excellent fruit, acidity and minerality. Rich and tangy mouthfeel that coats. (3.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but shows more intensity. Oatmeal rich with nothing out of place. (3.5) Finish: Hazelnut and tart pear fruit to the fore. Long and persistent. (3.5)
Overall: Wow, is this an outstanding Chard. Shows classic Sonoma Chard character with its rich pear fruit and charming balance, but steps it up a notch or two with minerality and subtle hazelnut complexity. It easily rises above the heavier, more buttery and more oaky Chards of the region that are its typical competition. This has unique character with elegance. Drinking outstanding now, no need to wait, but has the acidity and balance to get more complex with 4-6 years bottle age. (17)
