Tasting Note

92   2011  Dehlinger  Goldridge Syrah (Russian River Valley)   5/7/17  ($40)

   14.7% alc
Color: Deep ruby garnet. (3.0) Bouquet Anise, tar and blackberry preserves. Very pretty and distinctive. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight plus with excellent fruit and acidity, smooth tannins underneath. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but shows a little black licorice-infused bitterness. (3.0) Finish: Also shows a touch of bitterness here, but has a rich silkiness that is impressive. (3.5)
Overall: I really like the quality and style of this cool vintage, which shows richness, balance and elegance. It also shows a bit more spicy oak than usual, which adds a little complexity, but also a little bitterness. The complex bouquet is its best attribute at this point, but could become more integrated and balanced in the flavor and finish in the next 2-4 years. (16.0)
